Low-Altitude Defense Enters the “Active Countermeasure Era”: High-Speed Interceptor UAVs Redefine the Logic of Counter-UAS Response

1. The Industry Pain Point

For a long time, the domestic approach to low-altitude security has remained stuck in “passive warning + signal suppression”: radar and spectrum-monitoring equipment detect an illegal flight, and jamming devices are then used to cut its signal. In more and more real-world scenarios, however, the shortcomings of this model keep surfacing. Jamming is indiscriminate countermeasures, and its use at airports, in central urban districts and at chemical industrial parks runs up against compliance red lines, while easily disrupting civilian communications nearby. Even when suppression succeeds, operators still cannot see what the aircraft is carrying, cannot identify the operator, and have no complete video evidence. And against modified high-speed FPV drones, by the time radar picks up the signal the target is already closing on the protected core zone — leaving too little time to respond.

Low-altitude defense that can only raise an alarm but cannot step forward is, in essence, incomplete defense. The industry urgently needs an airborne asset that can take off proactively, run down high-speed targets, identify and verify them at close range, and preserve evidence throughout the entire engagement — closing the last link in the chain from “detection” to “countermeasure.”

2. Who We Are

Foshan NULL SPACE Innovation Technology Co., Ltd. (NULL SPACE) is a source manufacturer in China specializing in the in-house development and production of high-speed counter-UAS special-purpose UAVs. We do not make consumer aerial-photography drones or general-purpose long-endurance inspection UAVs. We focus on the low-altitude counter-UAS track, with self-developed high-speed aerodynamic layouts, an integrated AI flight-control system, multi-link anti-interference communications and small-target tracking algorithms — the foundation of the Peregrine series of low-altitude defense high-speed UAVs.

For low-altitude defense system integrators, airport security operators, energy and chemical enterprises, and military/police training units, we provide high-speed verification platforms, simulation counter-UAS target drones and customized special-purpose aircraft solutions — built around high speed, strong interference resistance and precise AI tracking, to create genuine low-altitude active-countermeasure capability.

Design philosophy: rather than long-endurance hovering inspection, we push acceleration, top speed, tracking stability and link reliability in complex environments to their limits — this aircraft is built for emergency counter-UAS engagements.

4. Core Technologies

4.1 High-Speed Aerodynamic Layout with Millisecond-Level Maneuver Response

An optimized high-speed multirotor configuration, distinct from the low-speed structures of ordinary aerial-photography drones: 0–100 km/h acceleration in as little as 1.3 seconds and a top speed of up to 400 km/h, matching the maneuverability of the vast majority of modified illegal FPV drones on the market — genuinely “able to catch up and able to hold on.” With Beaufort 8 wind resistance, it keeps a stable lock on the target even in strong-wind and turbulent airspace.

4.2 Dual-Band Redundant Communications: A Stable Link in Electromagnetic “Dead Zones”

Equipped with 915 MHz + 2.4 GHz dual communication links; mid- and long-range versions support customized channels and multiple parallel video streams. In strong electromagnetic interference environments such as airports, substations and dense base-station areas, the link automatically switches to the backup channel, preventing video blackouts and control loss, and ensuring uninterrupted long-range tracking.

4.3 Lightweight AI Perception System: Detecting Tiny Targets at Long Range

Our self-developed target recognition and tracking algorithm can identify UAV targets as small as 16 × 16 pixels and continuously track faint targets down to only 3 × 3 pixels, with occlusion-resistant tracking. The visible-light sensor delivers 1200 TVL high-definition imagery, with an optional uncooled thermal imaging module for round-the-clock, day-and-night detection. Video supports H.264/H.265 encoding and low-latency RTSP streaming for seamless integration with command platforms; all footage is stored locally to form a closed-loop evidence package.

4.4 Integrated Sealed Flight Control, Open to Deep Customization

The flight control system is an in-house integrated design, not a rework of an off-the-shelf public flight controller. It supports communication encryption, adjustable tracking thresholds, custom flight routes and automatic maneuver scripts for target drones, meeting the customization requirements of classified projects and specialized counter-UAS training.

5. Comparison of Low-Altitude Countermeasure Approaches

Table 2. Comparison of low-altitude countermeasure approaches.

ApproachNatureCore strengthsCritical weaknessValue of the Peregrine high-speed UAV
Spectrum / radar detection equipmentPassive sensingAll-weather, long-range early warningAlerts only — no verification, no evidence collection, no countermeasure capabilityWorks with radar as the airborne effector after an alert
Fixed RF jamming equipmentPassive suppressionSimple deployment, remote signal blockingHeavy compliance restrictions; easily disrupts public networks; cannot identify targets or collect evidenceA soft-countermeasure alternative that avoids the compliance risk of jamming
Conventional industry inspection UAVsVerification patrolLong endurance, high payload, clear imagerySlow — mostly capped at 80 km/h; cannot catch high-speed illegal drones; weak interference resistanceComplementary by design: inspection handles routine patrols, Peregrine handles sudden intrusions
Net-capture guns / portable countermeasure devicesPoint countermeasurePortable and low costShort effective range; operators must close in; cannot handle long-range high-speed targetsCan carry a net-capture payload for long-range aerial capture
Peregrine high-speed defense UAVActive countermeasureProactive launch, high-speed escort, close-range verification, full-engagement video evidence, can serve as a simulation target droneA short-duration high-speed platform with 3–10 minutes per sortieThe only mobile platform in the low-altitude defense stack that combines verification, tracking, expulsion and target training

Key viewpoint: active countermeasure does not replace radar and jamming equipment; it completes the defense chain. It lets security personnel see who the target is, see clearly what it is carrying, and preserve lawful evidence — completing expulsion and countermeasures within a compliant framework.

6. Scenarios × Pain Points × Deployment Solutions

Airport low-altitude security
Pain point: Airspace control is strict and high-power jamming equipment is subject to restrictions; a single high-speed illegal drone intrusion can easily halt flight operations, and traceable evidence is required for subsequent attribution of responsibility.
Solution: Integrated with the airport’s existing radar system, LKHB-5 launches rapidly after an alert, approaches the target at high speed while AI maintains a continuous lock, conducts visible-light + thermal imaging evidence collection with escort and expulsion, and streams video in real time to the ATC security platform.

Energy and petrochemical tank-farm protection
Pain point: High-voltage lines and transformer equipment create severe electromagnetic interference, wind conditions over tank farms are complex, and an approaching illegal drone carries explosion and leakage risks — indiscriminate jamming is not appropriate.
Solution: LKHB-5, with redundant anti-interference links and Beaufort 8 wind resistance, quickly takes up position once an intruder appears, provides long-range escort warning and simultaneously pushes alert video to the security command center.

Live counter-UAS team training
Pain point: Conventional target drones on the market are slow and fly rigid trajectories, falling far short of real modified illegal drones — training is divorced from real operations and assessments are ineffective.
Solution: LKHB-30 serves as a high-speed simulation target drone at up to 400 km/h, capable of programmed serpentine, variable-speed and variable-altitude irregular maneuver routes, used to train radar acquisition, jammer aiming and tracking procedures close to real intrusion scenarios.

Critical sites and classified campuses
Pain point: High communication confidentiality requirements; long-range identification and continuous tracking of covert-recording drones are needed, and data must not leak.
Solution: LKHB-30 with a customized encrypted communication link conducts long-range airspace verification, with tracking data stored locally in encrypted form, meeting the acceptance standards of classified projects.

Major sporting events and temporary high-profile events
Pain point: Short deployment cycles and mixed personnel; illegal drone intrusions are sudden, so equipment must be lightweight and quick to launch.
Solution: The LKHB-1.5 portable near-field version enables rapid single-operator deployment for fast interception and verification of close-range sudden intrusions.

7. Benchmark Case Summaries

8. FAQ (6 Questions)

Q1: Is the active-countermeasure UAV designed to ram illegal drones directly?
A: No. Peregrine’s core role is verification, tracking, escort warning and evidence collection. A net-capture payload can be configured to achieve physical capture according to project requirements, but soft expulsion is the default priority, in line with domestic low-altitude security compliance requirements. Kinetic hard-kill by collision is not recommended.

Q2: Flight time is only a few minutes — is that enough for security operations?
A: This is an emergency-response asset, not a routine patrol asset. It launches only when a radar alert is triggered, and completes approach and verification within the few-minute golden response window. For day-to-day, long-duration patrols, we recommend pairing it with long-endurance inspection UAVs.

Q3: Can you provide an SDK to integrate with our own security platform?
A: Yes. As the source developer we open our integration protocols: RTSP video streams and target coordinate data can be pushed to the customer’s own command platform, and secondary integration development is supported.

Q4: Can the AI algorithm distinguish drones from birds, plastic bags and kites?
A: The algorithm is specifically trained on the propeller and airframe features of UAVs. Provided the pixel threshold is met, recognition accuracy is > 85% with a false-alarm rate of ≤ 5%. Extremely small, distant targets are also subject to manual review to reduce the probability of erroneous countermeasures.

Q5: Can this UAV be exported?
A: It is special-purpose low-altitude countermeasure equipment, and export requires the corresponding approval procedures under relevant national regulations. Please contact our commercial team for a specific assessment.

Q6: After purchase, do you provide operator training and algorithm upgrades?
A: Yes. Volume orders include on-site hands-on training and O&M manuals. As the source manufacturer, we continuously iterate our AI recognition models and flight-control firmware, provide remote upgrade services, and can dispatch technical staff on site as needed.
